Orestis Willemen is a composer and guitarist with diverse interests that span music genres from classical to free improvisation. With a constant curiosity for new ways of approaching music, he has formed collaborations with theater groups, rock bands, ensembles, and guitar duos. He has taken part in a variety of festivals, such as the International Conference for Minimalism and Music, the Rewire Festival, and the Whatever Works Festival. He has studied classical guitar with distinguished teachers including Elena Papandreou (Greece) and Timo Korhonen (Turku University of Applied Sciences, Finland) and has given a number of solo recitals in Greece, Finland, and the UK. Apart from his guitar background, Willemen plays also the tampouras, a Greek folk instrument. Willemen's current focus on chamber music and composition led to the formation of the Hodiernal Quartet. The Quartet's dynamic musical agility and unique instrumentation positions it to develop fresh interpretations of existing music by living composers and commission new works by promising and established composers.
